CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRY AT ST. BRENDAN’S:
Clearances and Safe Church Training

At St. Brendan’s we believe that raising children is a communal affair and we take seriously our role as stewards of the next generation. We teach them the basics of faith, give them opportunities to serve and keep them safe.
We care about the well-being and safety of our children and youth and require training and clearances for all volunteers in our Nursery, Sunday School and Youth Program. Volunteers can sign up to work with the children on a flexible calendar. This is a ministry which benefits from the call of many people in the congregation to participate.
We encourage everyone to consider getting their Clearances and Safe Church Training so that you are free to help when there is a need.
There are two free clearances that are required if you have lived in the state of Pennsylvania for more than ten years and register as a volunteer. The clearances are the PA Child Abuse History Clearance and the PA State Police Criminal History Clearances. If you have lived in Pennsylvania for less than 10 years, it is required to also have an FBI clearance. The FBI clearance requires a fee. If you google identogo.com/locations, put in your zip code and find a location near you and register to get your fingerprints.
The clearances can be done online. If you have difficulty, you can register by phone or by mail.
To locate the clearances, you will need to google PA Child Abuse History Clearance. You can complete the form online or call 1 717-783-6211 or 1-877- 371-5422.
You also need to google PA State Police Criminal History Clearance. When you see the form, you can call 888 783 7972 if you need assistance.
To complete the Safe Church training 10 online modules, you can get started by contacting the Diocese at episcopalpgh.formstack.com/forms/safechurch.
