A Summer Podcast Roundup

Are you looking for something to listen to on a summer road trip, while you relax on the beach, or just on your commute to work? Why not try out a new podcast!

Podcasts are digital radio shows that you can listen to on demand by subscribing and downloading via your favorite podcast app on your mobile device or by streaming online from your computer. Don’t know how to download or listen to a podcast? Check out these simple instructions.

Here is a roundup of some free (mostly progressive) Episcopalian, Christian, and religious podcasts. These podcasts share a range of viewpoints and do not represent the official teachings of the Episcopal Church or the opinions of St. Brendan’s. Nor have any of the following podcasts sponsored this post or St. Brendan’s in any way. Some may challenge your point of view or make you think about things differently—some may not. Most of these podcasts have multiple hosts and/or a range of guests, such as scholars, theologians, authors, clergy, and regular listeners, who share their perspectives about everything from theology to pop culture through a Christian lens. The descriptions of the podcasts below are taken from the self-descriptions of their creators.

Grace and peace,

Annemarie

From All Points is the monthly podcast from the Episcopal Cafe, where we examine the themes of the life of faith; shining a light on the lived life of faith for individuals and the church.

Priest Pulse takes a playful and prayerful look at ministry, news, culture, and politics through the lens of the Episcopal Church. Hosts Fr. Benjamin Gildas and Colin Chapman sit down with guests from around the Episcopal Church and mainline Protestantism for heartwarming stories of faith, deep theological discussion, poking fun at culture and politics, and sometimes a silly game or two.

Popping Collars is a podcast where priests, pastors, minsters, and religious thinkers from around the country explore the intersection of religion and pop culture.

The Liturgists are a collective of artists and creators who create sacred art and experiences for the spiritually homeless and frustrated. The Liturgists Podcast blends a topical format with interviews, poetry, music, and compelling sound design. The Liturgists Podcast attracts a remarkably heterogeneous audience including not only a broad swath of Christianity, but also the religiously unaffiliated–including agnostics and atheists. The show has been lauded for its commitment to scientific accuracy, its production values, and most of all its gracious tone when discussing controversial subjects.

The Bad Christian Podcast: (for mature listeners)

Matt, Toby, and Joey discuss funny, controversial, and personal stuff with guests from the music business, leaders in the Christian world, and interesting folks from well outside of the Christian world.

Since March 13, 2008, Homebrewed Christianity Podcast has been bringing you the best nerdy audiological ingredients so you can brew your own faith. You will find conversations between friends, theologians, philosophers, and scholars of all stripes. What started as a reason for Tripp to interview the authors of his favorite books has turned into a community of podcasts, bloggers, & Deacons (what we call our regular listeners) invested in expanding and deepening the conversation around faith and theology. We hope you listen, question, think, and then share the Brew!

Hosted by co-founders Father Shannon Kearns and Brian Murphy, the Queer Theology podcast presents a queer look at the week’s lectionary

Interfaith Voices is an independent public radio show fostering interfaith understanding by providing engaging conversation about religion, across many traditions and beliefs. We explore how faith intersects with culture, public policy, and the news of the day. As the nation's only public radio show exclusively about religion, we are a vital source of knowledge about how religious belief shapes our world.
