Discernment Documents
In mid-October, the Discernment Committee completed work on three key documents. They were reviewed and approved by our Vestry and by the Diocese. They now serve as the basis for announcing the vacancy for a priest-in-charge at St. Brendan's and soliciting applications.
This description of the past, present and imagined future of St. Brendan's serves as potential applicants' initial introduction to our faith community. Following the conclusion of the search, it may be retained for a while as a way to attract and inform new members.
This form is prescribed by the Episcopal Church's Office of Transition Ministries (OTM). It contains both factual questions and prompts that ask the Committee to reflect on some probing questions about our identity as a parish.
[Clergy around the country who are seeking new positions fill out a counterpart to this form, in which they describe their skills and talents. The OTM will send our Committee the responses submitted by every applicant for our position.]
This relatively brief document will be submitted to The Episcopal News, an online publication that announces all open clergy positions. It will also be used by Canon Rev. Kimberly Karashin as she reaches out to her counterparts in other dioceses on our behalf and responds to inquiries about our opening.
